Shopify development in Los Angeles
An affiliate or referral programme turns marketing into a variable cost, which is attractive precisely because it only pays on results. What it also does is create a set of incentives you have to manage, because people optimise for whatever you decided to reward.

Paying other people to send you customers
The design decisions all follow from one question: what are you actually paying for.
Paying on any sale that follows a click rewards whoever gets the last click, which is frequently a discount site catching customers who were already buying, so you are paying a commission on orders you had. Paying only on new customers is harder to measure and much closer to what you wanted. Cookie duration decides how much credit a single click carries, and a long window is generous in a way that is expensive rather than kind. Beyond the mechanics there is the part businesses forget until it is a problem: affiliates will use your brand name in advertising, make claims you did not write, and occasionally offer discounts that do not exist. Deciding what is allowed before anybody signs up, and being willing to remove people, is the difference between a channel and a slow erosion of the way your brand is described. The programme is a relationship with rules, not a mechanism you switch on.
We have no office in Los Angeles. Our studio is in Rajkot, India, and every project here is delivered remotely — if a supplier who can attend your premises matters to you, that is a fair requirement and we do not meet it.

Shopify development questions from Los Angeles
Three questions about the subject above. How we work, what it costs and who owns the code are answered on the service page.
What is wrong with paying on last click?
It pays for the ending rather than the beginning. Discount and voucher sites reliably catch customers who had already decided, so you pay a commission on orders you were getting anyway, and the numbers look excellent because the attribution is measuring the wrong thing.
How long should the credit last?
Shorter than most default settings. A long window means a single click months ago earns a commission on a purchase driven by something else entirely, which is generous in a way that is expensive rather than kind. A few days covers genuine referral behaviour.
What is most often overlooked?
That affiliates advertise on your behalf. They will use your brand name, describe your products in their own words and sometimes announce discounts you never offered. Deciding what is permitted before anybody signs up, and being willing to remove people, is the actual work.
