A meaningful number of people navigate with a keyboard rather than a pointer, permanently or temporarily, and a store that cannot be operated that way is a store they cannot buy from. It is also the fastest way to find genuine faults, because keyboard problems are usually structural rather than cosmetic.
Buying something without touching a mouse
The test takes twenty minutes and nobody runs it: put the mouse away and try to buy something.
What it exposes is consistent. Focus that is invisible, so you cannot tell where you are. Custom controls built from elements that were never interactive, which the keyboard simply skips — a menu that only opens on hover, a dropdown that is a styled list of nothing. Modal dialogues that let focus escape behind them, so you are typing into a page you cannot see. An order in which things receive focus that has nothing to do with the visual layout, because the markup was arranged for appearance. And skip links either missing or present but broken, which means reaching the product list requires tabbing through the whole navigation on every page. Each of those is a build fault rather than a design preference, and each is cheaper to fix than to work around. The reason to prioritise it above most other accessibility work is that failing here fails everything else too, since assistive technology largely operates the same structures.

What is the quickest way to find these faults?
Put the mouse away and try to buy something. Twenty minutes finds more real problems than any amount of reviewing screenshots, because keyboard faults are structural — they come from how the page was built rather than from how it was styled, which is where reviews usually look.
Why does this matter beyond keyboard users?
Because assistive technology operates the same structures. A control the keyboard cannot reach is generally a control a screen reader cannot describe, so failing this test almost guarantees failing the rest, and passing it fixes a great deal that was never explicitly tested.
What is the most common single fault?
Focus you cannot see. It is frequently removed deliberately because an outline was considered untidy, and without it a keyboard user has no idea where they are on the page. Restoring a visible focus state is one line and it makes the difference between usable and not.
