Ecommerce website development for Hungarian businesses

Ecommerce development for Hungarian businesses has an obligation most markets do not: invoice data is reported to the tax authority, so the invoice a store issues is a compliance artefact rather than a receipt. That constrains how orders and invoicing are built. We build remotely from Rajkot and hold no Hungarian office.

How do you work with Hungarian clients?

We hold no Hungarian office.

Work runs from our studio in Rajkot on a shared board you can open at any time, with decisions written down the day they are made and scope changes priced in writing before they are built. What is specific to Hungary is that invoicing cannot be an afterthought. Invoice data is reported to the tax authority, which means the invoice is a regulated document with required content and timing rather than a courtesy email, and it is generated by accredited invoicing software rather than improvised by a store plugin. The practical consequence for a build is that the store hands clean order data to that software instead of trying to be it, and the integration between the two is scoped as its own piece of work with its own testing. Stores that discover this late end up either reporting incorrectly or issuing invoices by hand, and both are expensive. We would rather raise it at the quote. Invoicing between us is in euro or forint. Contracts are governed by the laws of India, stated plainly in our terms and worth raising with your adviser before signing.

What we build

Four services, delivered the same way wherever you are: Shopify stores, WooCommerce stores, the interface design that decides whether either converts, and the automation that removes manual work from running them.

Which platforms dominate in Hungary?

Our observation, not sourced data

What we see in the Hungarian market, stated as our observation rather than as sourced data: WooCommerce is common, Shopify is growing, and there is an established domestic platform sector whose main advantage is that invoicing and reporting are handled natively. That is a genuine advantage rather than marketing, and where a merchant is well served by it we will say so. Where a business needs Shopify or WooCommerce for other reasons, the invoicing integration becomes a named line in the scope rather than an assumption.

What does a Hungarian store actually have to handle?

Every layer below is something a store selling in Hungary has to get right, and most of them are decided before a line of code is written. Thresholds and rates are deliberately not quoted here — they change, and the primary sources are linked further down.

Cities we cover in Hungary

Each city page describes what commerce actually looks like there rather than repeating this one. If your city is not listed, the service is identical — we simply have not written a page worth publishing about it yet.

Data and consumer rules

Primary sources

A Hungarian store carries the two standard EU regimes plus a domestic reporting obligation that shapes the build. Data protection runs through GDPR, supervised by the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. Consumer law gives a fourteen-day withdrawal right on most distance sales, stated before purchase. The domestic addition is invoice reporting: invoice data goes to the tax authority, which makes the invoice a regulated document with required content, required timing and a required route. It also means corrections and credit notes are reportable events rather than internal adjustments, so a refund is not simply a payment reversal. We build so the store produces clean, complete order data for accredited invoicing software rather than attempting to issue compliant invoices itself. Which obligations apply to your business is a question for your accountant, and nothing here is tax or legal advice.

Nothing on this page is legal or tax advice.

Where Hungarian businesses sell next

These are the markets clients in Hungary most often ask about once the first store is trading. Each has its own payment habits, carriers and regulator, and a store built for one does not automatically work in the next. Every other market we cover is listed underneath.

Hungarian questions we are asked

5 questions specific to working with us from Hungary, including the one most agencies avoid: whether anybody at this studio is actually in the country.

Do you have a Hungarian office?

No. We work from Rajkot, India, and say so rather than implying a Budapest address. You get a named contact who stays with the account, a shared board you can open at any time, and answers within one business day. Where a project genuinely needs somebody in the room, we are the wrong choice.

Can the store issue invoices itself?

We would not build it that way. Invoice data is reported to the tax authority and the requirements sit with accredited invoicing software, so the sensible architecture is a store that hands clean order data to that software. Trying to make a storefront plugin into a compliant invoicing system is how these projects go wrong.

What happens to invoicing when we refund an order?

It becomes a reportable correction rather than an internal adjustment, which is why refunds need to flow through the same integration as the original invoice. Stores that treat a refund as purely a payment reversal end up with reported invoices that no longer match what actually happened.

Do you handle the tax reporting for us?

No. We are a development studio, not an accountant or an invoicing provider. What we do is make sure the store produces complete and accurate order data, and that the integration to whichever invoicing software you use is properly built and tested. The filing relationship stays yours.

Should prices be in forint or euro?

Forint for domestic customers, who expect it, and euro only where you genuinely sell across the border in volume. Two currencies mean two sets of round prices rather than one converted set, which is a data decision worth making deliberately rather than leaving to an exchange rate.
