Ecommerce website development for Latvian businesses

Ecommerce development for Latvian businesses has to decide a language question that most markets do not face. A substantial share of the population uses Russian day to day, so whether the store serves one language or two is a commercial decision with real consequences. We build remotely from Rajkot and hold no Latvian office.

How do you work with Latvian clients?

We hold no Latvian office.

Work is delivered from our studio in Rajkot on a shared board you can open at any time, with every decision written down the day it is made and scope changes priced in writing before they are built. What is specific to Latvia is that the language decision is genuinely commercial rather than administrative. Latvian is the state language and a large minority uses Russian in daily life, so a store serving only one is choosing which customers to make comfortable. That decision belongs to you, not to us, and it has legal dimensions around consumer information that your own adviser should confirm. What we contribute is a content model where a second language is structural rather than bolted on — parallel fields, language-specific URLs, hreflang that resolves at page level, and a switch that keeps the reader on the page they were on. Adding a language after launch rewrites every product address on the site, which is why it belongs in the first conversation. Invoicing is in euro. Contracts are governed by the laws of India, stated plainly in our terms and worth raising with your adviser before signing.

What we build

Four services, delivered the same way wherever you are: Shopify stores, WooCommerce stores, the interface design that decides whether either converts, and the automation that removes manual work from running them.

Which platforms dominate in Latvia?

Our observation, not sourced data

What we see in the Latvian market, stated as our observation rather than as data we can source: WooCommerce is common, Shopify appears among newer brands, and a great deal of trade runs through regional marketplaces rather than own stores. The pattern worth naming is that Latvian projects frequently need marketplace synchronisation and a bilingual content model at the same time, and doing both properly in the first phase is considerably cheaper than adding either later.

What does a Latvian store actually have to handle?

Every layer below is something a store selling in Latvia has to get right, and most of them are decided before a line of code is written. Thresholds and rates are deliberately not quoted here — they change, and the primary sources are linked further down.

What a store selling in Latvia typically needs at each layer.

Cities we cover in Latvia

Each city page describes what commerce actually looks like there rather than repeating this one. If your city is not listed, the service is identical — we simply have not written a page worth publishing about it yet.

Data and consumer rules

Primary sources

A Latvian store meets the two standard EU regimes with a language dimension running through both. Data protection runs through GDPR, supervised by the Data State Inspectorate, governing collection, retention and erasure. Consumer law gives a fourteen-day withdrawal right on most distance sales, stated before purchase rather than only in terms. The language dimension is where care is needed: there are national rules about the language in which consumer information is provided, and they are a matter for your own adviser rather than for a development studio. What we will not do is build a store where the legal pages exist in one language and the shopping experience in another, because that is the arrangement most likely to leave a customer uninformed. Every page carrying an obligation exists in every language the store serves. Nothing here is legal advice.

Nothing on this page is legal or tax advice.

Where Latvian businesses sell next

These are the markets clients in Latvia most often ask about once the first store is trading. Each has its own payment habits, carriers and regulator, and a store built for one does not automatically work in the next. Every other market we cover is listed underneath.

Latvian questions we are asked

5 questions specific to working with us from Latvia, including the one most agencies avoid: whether anybody at this studio is actually in the country.

Do you have a Latvian office?

No. We work from Rajkot, India, and say so rather than implying a Riga address. You get a named contact who stays with the account, a shared board you can open at any time, and answers within one business day. Where a project genuinely needs somebody present, we are the wrong supplier.

Should the store be bilingual?

That is your commercial decision and it has legal dimensions your adviser should confirm, particularly around the language of consumer information. What we would say technically is that deciding before launch costs almost nothing and deciding afterwards rewrites every URL and metadata field on the site.

How should hreflang be set up for two languages?

Reciprocally, at the level of each individual page rather than the site. Most bilingual stores we inherit have it on the home page and nowhere else, which tells a search engine almost nothing about the product pages that are meant to rank. It is a small amount of work done properly once.

Are parcel lockers as dominant as in Poland?

They are the default here too, and a store offering only courier delivery is offering the less convenient option. The selector belongs inside the checkout with live availability. Coverage differs between networks, so which carriers you support is a coverage decision rather than purely a price one.

Should we sell through a regional marketplace?

Many Latvian merchants do, and it is a commercial decision rather than a technical one. Technically it requires one stock figure both channels follow, because independent figures diverge within weeks and an oversold marketplace order damages a seller rating in a way a website cancellation does not.
