Ecommerce website development for Romanian businesses

Ecommerce development for Romanian businesses has to treat cash on delivery as a primary payment method rather than a legacy one. A large share of orders are paid to the courier, which changes the order lifecycle, the reconciliation and what an abandoned parcel costs. We build remotely from Rajkot and hold no Romanian office.

How do you work with Romanian clients?

We hold no Romanian office.

Work is delivered from our studio in Rajkot on a shared board you can open at any time, with every decision written down the day it is made and scope changes priced in writing before they are built. What is specific to Romania is that payment on delivery is not a fallback here, it is how a great deal of the market buys, and building as though card payment is the norm produces a store that works for a minority of customers. The consequences run through everything: an order is despatched before it is paid, the money arrives from the carrier days later, reconciliation is a carrier report rather than a payment ledger, and a refused parcel costs you freight in both directions plus handling. Stores that model this properly measure their refusal rate and price accordingly; stores that do not simply lose margin they never see. Locker networks are dense and growing, which helps. Invoicing is in euro or Romanian leu. Contracts are governed by the laws of India, stated plainly in our terms and worth raising with your adviser before signing.

What we build

Four services, delivered the same way wherever you are: Shopify stores, WooCommerce stores, the interface design that decides whether either converts, and the automation that removes manual work from running them.

Which platforms dominate in Romania?

Our observation, not sourced data

What we see in the Romanian market, stated as our observation rather than as sourced data: WooCommerce holds a large share, Shopify is growing among newer brands, and marketplace selling is significant enough that stock synchronisation is usually in scope. The pattern worth naming is that carrier integration matters more than platform choice here, because the carrier is also handling your money on a large share of orders.

What does a Romanian store actually have to handle?

Every layer below is something a store selling in Romania has to get right, and most of them are decided before a line of code is written. Thresholds and rates are deliberately not quoted here — they change, and the primary sources are linked further down.

What a store selling in Romania typically needs at each layer.
LayerWhat Romanian stores usually need
CurrencyRomanian leu, with euro used for some cross-border trade
Payment methodsCash on delivery is a primary method, alongside cards and bank transfer
Order lifecycleGoods ship before payment, so reconciliation runs through the carrier
CollectionParcel lockers are dense and growing rapidly
Shipping carriersFan Courier, Sameday, Cargus, DPD; locker networks alongside
Refused parcelsA real cost centre — freight both ways plus handling, unrecovered
Data protectionGDPR, supervised by ANSPDCP
Consumer rightsA fourteen-day withdrawal right on most distance sales

Cities we cover in Romania

Each city page describes what commerce actually looks like there rather than repeating this one. If your city is not listed, the service is identical — we simply have not written a page worth publishing about it yet.

Data and consumer rules

Primary sources

A Romanian store meets the two standard EU regimes with one operational consequence that shapes both. Data protection runs through GDPR, supervised by the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing, governing collection, retention and erasure. Consumer law gives a fourteen-day withdrawal right on most distance sales, stated before purchase rather than only in terms. The consequence is cash on delivery: where the customer pays the courier, part of the transaction record sits outside your systems, and both the tax position and the withdrawal process depend on reconciling it correctly. An order marked paid at despatch produces books that do not match the bank and refunds that cannot be traced to a payment. We build so the payment state is explicit and the carrier report is the authority for collected orders. Which obligations apply to your business is a question for your accountant, and nothing here is tax or legal advice.

Nothing on this page is legal or tax advice.

Where Romanian businesses sell next

These are the markets clients in Romania most often ask about once the first store is trading. Each has its own payment habits, carriers and regulator, and a store built for one does not automatically work in the next. Every other market we cover is listed underneath.

Romanian questions we are asked

5 questions specific to working with us from Romania, including the one most agencies avoid: whether anybody at this studio is actually in the country.

Do you have a Romanian office?

No. We work from Rajkot, India, and say so rather than implying a Bucharest address. You get a named contact who stays with the account, a shared board you can open at any time, and answers within one business day. Where a project genuinely needs somebody in the room, we are the wrong choice.

Can we move customers away from cash on delivery?

Partly, and slowly. A small discount for prepayment shifts some volume, and so does a visible track record. What does not work is removing the option, which simply loses the orders. We would rather measure the refusal rate, price the method honestly and let the mix move on its own.

What does a refused parcel actually cost?

Outbound freight, return freight and the handling to put goods back on sale, none of it recovered. Measuring that rate is worth an afternoon and most merchants we ask have never done it. Once the number exists, decisions about deposits, fees and which products to offer on delivery become straightforward.

How should reconciliation work?

With the carrier report as the authority for collected orders rather than the store. Money arrives days after despatch, in batches, and matching it back to individual orders is where the work is. Building that properly turns a weekly manual exercise into a report somebody checks.

Are lockers worth supporting as well?

Yes, and they are growing quickly here. They reduce failed deliveries, cost less per parcel and suit customers who are not home during the day. Supporting them means a selector inside the checkout with live availability, and many networks also handle collected payment at the locker itself.
